ImageThe town of Omiš is placed at the very mouth of the Cetina river, some 25 km south from Split. The old town heart and the new part are connected with a bridge. The town is surrounded by sheer rocks and sea. Omiš is well known for its pirat history, which can be easily noticed even today, at the first sight.

Namely, over the old town there is a Romanesque fortification "Mirabella", dating from the 12th century. On the 245 m high mountain over the town there are remains of the old fortification "Starigrad".

ImageAt the very entrance to the town, on the territory of Duće, there is a large sandy beach, which is according to opinion of a lot of people considered  to be the most beutiful beach between Split and Dubrovnik.

Omiš is famous for its traditional festival of Dalmatian national songs, that has been taking place each year since 1967 on the squares in the old parts of the town, to maintain the cultural heritage and is the greatest manifestation of this kind.
